City of Stonecrest to Temporarily Close Due to Forecast of Arctic Sub-Freezing Weather
|
On Tuesday, the City of Stonecrest will close City Hall, Browns Mill Recreation Center, and all city-owned parks in response to a second round of severe winter weather. The cold front is expected to bring below freezing temperatures causing hazardous conditions in Stonecrest and the region. "Our commitment is to safeguard the well-being of the Stonecrest community during this challenging weather event. Our goal is to ensure everyone in Stonecrest weathers this extreme drop in temperature safely and with the resources they need," said Mayor Jazzmin Cobble. "We encourage everyone to stay off the roads and take the necessary steps to protect themselves and their homes from the extreme cold." Forecast Highlights:
- Cold Weather: Temperatures are expected to reach dangerous levels in the teens and lower 20s through Wednesday.
- Winter Precipitation: Snow showers and freezing rain are possible, with icy conditions lingering potentially beyond Wednesday due to extended freezing temperatures.
Precautionary Measures: Residents are encouraged to do the following: - Insulate exposed pipes to prevent freezing and bursting.
- Dress in layers and avoid prolonged outdoor exposure.
- Prepare for hazardous road conditions and postpone non-essential travel if possible.
- Avoid using outdoor grills and generators indoors to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.
- Ensure carbon monoxide detectors function properly.
- Check on elderly neighbors and those who may be in need.
- Shelter pets from the freezing temperatures.
"These weather conditions demand our full attention," said Mayor Cobble. "We thank everyone for their understanding and cooperation as we prioritize safety during this period." Pending improvements in weather conditions, the City of Stonecrest will resume normal business operations on Wednesday, Jan 22. City officials will continue to provide updates on weather conditions and operational changes via its official website and social media channels. View Full Press Release
