Committees, boards, and commissions are formed as a collaborative way for citizens, city staff and elected officials to
provide professional insight and recommendations to leadership to efficiently and effectively manage city resources. They also provide an opportunity for residents, business leaders and others to become more engaged in local government.
The formation of these groups is based on provisions within a city’s charter. In Stonecrest, committees, boards, and commissions are formed by the mayor. Members of
committees are appointed by council members (including the mayor) then approved by the mayor. Members are
usually selected based on their expertise within a given field as it relates to any particular committee. Terms
of service are voluntary and specific to each group. Each committee, board or commission elects a chair, vice chair, and other leadership roles to help manage the group's activities.
