The City Council and I stand in full support of the State of Emergency declared for DeKalb County in response to the severe winter weather conditions impacting our county and our city. The safety and well-being of our residents remain our highest priority, and we urge everyone to take this situation seriously.
This extreme cold front—which at one point dropped around 14 degrees Fahrenheit—has brought snow and ice creating hazardous conditions across our city roadways and neighborhoods. Dekalb County crews have applied over 500 tons of salt, sand, and calcium chloride to treat roads and have equipped 71 emergency vehicles with snow chains as they continue to assist stranded vehicles and residents.
We echo the call for all residents to avoid unnecessary travel and to prioritize staying indoors where it is warm and safe. We urge you to allow our emergency responders and public safety teams to do their vital work unimpeded.
I encourage everyone to stay informed through official channels and to heed safety advisories. Please check on your neighbors, especially the elderly or those who may be more vulnerable during these harsh conditions. We are Stonecrest Strong, and together, we can weather this storm with resilience.
Stay safe,
Mayor Jazzmin Cobble
