Community resources help residents stay cool during heat advisories.

 

DeKalb County opens cooling centers and offers other assistance during heat advisory

DeKalb County is making most recreation centers and libraries throughout the county available as cooling centers due to the ongoing heat advisory.

For a list of DeKalb County recreation centers, visit,  www.dekalbcountyga.gov/parks and click the “Recreation Programs and Centers” button. Hamilton, Lucious, Sanders and Midway recreation centers will not function as cooling locations according to the County.

To locate your nearest county library, visit: www.dekalblibrary.org/locations. However, Brookhaven Library and Covington Library will not serve as cooling centers.

Individuals accessing the cooling centers must follow the County’s COVID-19 protocols, which include wearing a mask, social distancing and undergoing a temperature check.


Seniors needing additional assistance should call the Senior Link Line at (770) 322-2950.

Additionally, the DeKalb County Community Development Department is housing homeless residents in local hotels and motels.

Persons in the county who need homelessness assistance or housing services can contact DeKalb County Coordinated Entry by calling (404) 687-3500.
